Thom B Trail Runs take place on Saturday: Last chance to register to run or volunteer!

The race directors, food crew, timing team, and others are finalizing preparations for the Thom B Trail Runs on Hammond Hill this Saturday, May 16. The race will offer 8.5 miles of trail (run one loop), 17 miles (run the loop twice), or 26.2 miles (run a baby loop and then complete the loop three times). The 3-loop marathon starts at 7 AM, the 2-loop 17-mile race at 8 AM, and the 1-loop 8.5-mile race begins at 9 AM.

Runners, please sign up today: Registration closes for good at 6 AM on Saturday morning. There is no in-person registration at the race.

Parking can be limited; please sign up to carpool if you can.

We especially need a few more volunteers to help make race day run smoothly: Please sign up on Helper Helper if you are able to help out on Saturday. We are currently looking for course support, cleanup crew, and check-in volunteers.

We’ll see you on the trails!

Hi Stephanie,

Sadly, I’ve got a sore knee, so I have to drop out of Thom B this Saturday.

Thanks for organizing!

Hey Stephanie,
I’ve signed up for Bib pickup but I’ll have to leave at 8:00AM for the race. Hope this will help!

Thanks Lucia. A friend of mine offered to help, so I think we’re ok.

Cheers,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, Sorry I just sent you an empty email, I’m just checking to see what time to show up as a volunteer course marshal. I’m assuming I show up at the start and then go to the assigned spot? Helper helper said 7:30 but I see the marathon starts at 7 am and I can be there whenever you like.

Hi Anne,
Thanks for reaching out. Since it tends to be a long day, it probably makes sense to split the shift in half. The full shift would run from 7:30am to probably noon (or a little earlier). This would make the 1st shift 7:30-9:30 and the 2nd shift 9:30am-noon (or whenever the sweep comes through). Do you have a preference?
Thanks,

I probably prefer the first shift, but it’s fine if somebody else wanted that shift instead. And I can stay later if needed. Also it’s not really clear to me exactly where I show up, or where that station is, so let me know.
Thanks, Anne

Can’t wait to see you out there, Dr. S. - aim for Hammond Hill Road Parking, listen for cowbells, and bring bug spray!

Edit: I am in no way responsible for anything, of course, but remain grateful for your support!

Hi Stephanie! Just saw the Webscorer email. Are the ticks worse this year? Also, I don’t remember the trails being too overgrown in previous years. Assuming they have also been cleared this year? Thanks so much!

I ran the loop and some of the other Hammond trails last weekend and everything was in good shape for running save some intermittent muddy spots. I didn’t have issues with ticks or other bugs either.

Hi Kuwana,
I can’t really verify this, I’m just repeating what’s been in the news. It’s always better to be safe.

Cheers,
Stephanie

Very much agree - loved the full buffet, extremely well-marked course, quality memorabilia, friendly AS volunteers - props to Anne & Billie out at Ganowachterage Glen, Ian at Canaan Cross, WSAR volunteers, Stephanie for many hours of prep, and the entire race team & board members who helped make this all possible!
