The completions are coming fast and furious now, with 33 people across the line. New this week, all with Classic Challenge completions on the long Labor Day weekend, are Katerina Tang, Ruth Sproul (our oldest woman, at 74), Nico Huber, Elizabeth Rechtin, Bill Begeal, and Amalia Skilton (right before hopping a plane back to Scotland).
Those completions have had an impact at the top of the leaderboard, too. Katerina Tang moves into third place in Most Points for women, and Nico Huber rockets into first place for Most Points for men. (And Columbia Warren ran a fast Waterfront Trail to claw back a few points from Adam Pesta and stay in third.) Jacqueline Treml also picks up the third spot in Most Courses with 40—who’s going to be the next to the full set of 44 courses? (Given that we’ll have multiple people tying for first in Most Courses with 44, I’ll be tweaking the prize money around that competition.) In the Team Points competition, there’s still time for things to change, but the @Super-60s-70s seem to be running away with it this year.
In terms of mileage, we’ve exceeded 14,300 now, and with luck, we’ll break 15,000 by this time next week. A bunch of those miles came from the indomitable Pete Kresock, the original mileage monster, who added to his total of 941.3 with our third Tough Trail completion on Labor Day, recording a running time of 6:01:48 and an elapsed time of 7:41:04, well under the 12-hour cutoff. And when I loaded that page, I was chuffed to see a fourth completion from Courtney Hill, the Boulderhead and women’s Stonehead leader in the Trail Circuit. Running in today’s wonderfully cool weather, Courtney finished the five courses in 6:56:29 with an elapsed time of 8:42:24.
Other notes:
- Beebe Lake course fully open: Cornell has completed the construction that closed the official Beebe Lake course recently, so if you’ve been holding off on that or rerouting around the closure, you can do the official course again.
- Ithaca 5&10 on Sunday: We won’t be having a group run this weekend because of our Ithaca 5&10 race. It’s a great race (and the finisher medals are fabulous—massive nickels and dimes), and you can submit your 5K times for Lakefront Loops or your 10K times for Sights of the Heights, so sign up today!
- Photos of the week: I’m going to take credit for these shots of Tonya Engst and Patrick and Theo Milano finishing the Labor Day 5K and submitting their results to Lakefront Loops. They’re not the best photos ever, but my FreezeFrame timing app took them hands-free by automatically detecting finishers and snapping photos. (Also, it was a slow week for photos.)
See you Sunday at the 5&10, and until next week, keep covering the ground!
