Another step toward the custom Challenge completion for both kids and another adventure in the woods. We walked the whole way looking for those elusive bullfrogs and might as well have been searching for Bigfoot. We did spot dozens of bright blue dragon flies on the Wilson Trail, which got the boys psyched up imaging what else we might find. On the way back in, also on the Wilson Trail, we had to sidestep a large snapping turtle parked in the middle of the path. Afterward we had some fun cooling down as we explored the visitors center.
Wanted to run today but given the heat, decided to head for a shaded trail. It was lovely and mostly cool on the trail. We listened to birds, found the egg and cooled off in the Lab of O.
Looks like the Ash trail (the first right when starting from the building) is closed again, easy enough to find your way around (just go straight, only adds ~50m but also the biggest hill on the course) but @adamengst might want to make a more official statement since it’s a Classic course.
Tough Trails Challenge course #2, figured I could use an easy recovery after the half marathon. Went too hard again, but saw a heron, so I guess it was worth it? 16 miles in and still no single track…
The Rock
Got worried when the parking lots were nearly full but not many groups on the trails and they were all near the big pond. So I had a peaceful run on shady trails.
Shortly after crossing the road, I saw a large rock ahead on the trail and thought, “That wasn’t here before.” The rock was this
My son was coach pressured () into signing up for cross country for conditioning for basketball, and he has decided to give it a try. On our way to basketball, we made a stop at the Finger Lakes Running Company for a new pair of running shoes. Purchase price was lowered by using some store credit I had built up.
I planned to run the East Hill Rec Way during basketball until I drove past Sapsucker Woods Road. I decided to hit Duck Trails instead. With light rain, I was off. It was amazing to hear the rain on the leaves while staying dry under their cover.
