We had great weather for the 50th Ithaca 5&10! There were 389 finishers for the 2025 5K and 10k races. Pre-race setup and bib pickup went smoothly thanks to numerous volunteers, and nearly 30 kids kicked off the day’s events with a 1-mile untimed fun run on the paths between Ithaca High School and Boynton Middle School. The 5K and 10K started together 45 minutes later, taking over Cayuga Street temporarily before funneling down to run their way towards the Commons, back on Tioga Street, and around Boynton. The 5K runners finished into the IHS bus lane, and the 10K runners kept on for another loop.
The 5K was won by the 2024 winner. Callum Coots of Missoula, MT dropped 11 seconds from his 2024 time to win in 15:28. Ryan Lyppens of Tarrytown, NY, took second at 15:44. Joe McMahon of Syracuse, NY placed third in 15:49. On the women’s side, Diane Makovic of Western Springs, IL ran 18:08 for the win, 34 seconds faster than her 2024 win. Chelsea Benson of Trumansburg, NY came in second with a time of 18:52. Third place went to Juliet Rose, Ithaca, NY, in 19:29
The men’s 10K, which served as the RRCA New York State 10K Championship, was won by Alex Evans of Ithaca in 32:29, followed by Alexander Simpson, also of Ithaca with a time of 33:25, 29 seconds faster than 2024. Third place went to John Salva of Conklin, NY in 34:28. The women’s RRCA New York State 10K Championship title was claimed by Anne Riordan of Ithaca in 38:54 (below), with Erica Griggin of National City, MI second in 41:26 and Dorothy Wong of Pennington, NJ, third in 42:28, 19 seconds faster than her third place win in 2024.
Full results are available, along with a slew of fabulous race photos from Paul Houle and Kilian Weinberger.
Special thanks to all the volunteers who made it happen, starting with race director Gary McCheyne. Club members Adam Moody, Dave Rossiter, and Jeney Wierman marked the course Thursday evening, and Ryan Allen-Parrot and Alan Lockett set it up for race day. Tonya Engst managed bib and shirt pickup, which was ably staffed by Jennifer Best, Matt Clark, Rebecca Lambert, Jamie Loehr, and Joe Nolan, and helped by Mary Catt and Bob Walters. Mark Booth, Heather Cobb, and Adam Engst managed clothing sales; Karen Ingall coordinated the fun run; Linda Eckert and Lauren Milano prepped food with direction from Sarah Drumheller; Tim Ingall was lead biker; Karen Ingall helped at the finish line. Sarah Caldwell with the Spiked Shoe Committee and runners from Cornell Track Team, Aaron Proujansky, and David Rossiter course marshaled at the many intersections in the race. Water stops were staffed by Bob Talda, Jack Turner, and Sarah Woodyear. Finish line announcing was handled easily by Ian Golden, and course take-down by Tim Ingall and Alan Lockett. Leone Timing for recording times and places, the Ithaca Fire Police for managing traffic at the busiest intersections, Purity Ice Cream for scooping for all the runners, and Ithaca High School for providing the venue.
We hope to see you at upcoming FLRC events, such as the Danby Down & Dirty trail race on October 11, and the Turkey Trot prediction run on Thanksgiving morning. We also invite you to join our weeknight group workouts and group runs and race with us on our cross-country teams in the PGXC series.
