Bridge Closure at Flat Rock

After 2 years of planning, fundraising, and pre-fabbing, I’m happy to report that renovation of the bridge at Flat Rock is scheduled to begin this Thursday, weather permitting. Here’s the plan for the next few weeks:

The bridge will be closed during the day from Thursday - Sunday for the next two long weekends, March 16-19 and March 23-26. It will re-open for use, however, at the end of each day around 6 pm. Our safety protocol from the University is extremely strict, and so any non-construction users found on the bridge could shut the entire job down. Please don’t ask for exceptions or go around the barricades and try to cross during construction.

We may need some additional construction time in April, depending on weather and progress. We’ll provide an update once we get a better idea of how long it will take.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help the other community volunteers who are gathering to complete the project, please let me know (cht2@cornell.edu).

Thanks for your understanding and support.

The bridge rebuild got a nice write-up in the Cornell Chronicle: https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2023/03/repairs-flat-rock-bridge-span-two-generations
