Hey everyone,
I am giving some serious contemplation to attempt the Tough Tarmac Challenge the last weekend of the challenge. (weather permitting)
I will walk most of it, and running whenever I have the energy
I am looking to see if anyone wants to join me for some or All of it.
Here is how I have math’ed it out. It will be VERY close to the time if I 100% walk it. I would be starting at the track at the Spencer-VanEtten High School.
I walked RunRabbitRun last weekend and used a backpack holding my 2L bladder, but by the end of that, it was bothering my shoulder, but other than that I was fine.
So I am wondering if using my running vest is the better option and meeting up with “crew” for refueling would be the better strategy rather than my usual “Do it all myself” Habit I have
I just thought I would throw this out there incase anyone else was thinking of trying the challenge but didn’t want to do it alone.
But who knows, I may run out of time, or may get too tired or sore to continue
One question for @adamengst Do these attempts require us to follow the courses in the direction designed or can we still do them in reverse as long as we cover the ground, just like the regular challenge?
Might I suggest switching out Spencer-VanEtten High for Dryden High? So your order would be Valley Views, Dryden High, Freeville Fly In. You’d save about 10 minutes of driving time that can be added to your running time if needed.
Have you built prep time into your drive time? For me it took 10 minutes to drive from Dryden to Campbell Meadows (FFF), but the time getting to my car from the track/getting ready to run at Campbell added 5 minutes.
Tburg track is about a 5 minute drive from Rabbit Run start. Also, I preferred to start the Rabbit Run course by taking Falls Road to Tburg, looping Rabbit Run, then back to the start, Jacksonville Rd to Kraft then BDT to finish.
Please keep us updated on what day you might attempt this.
Good luck out there if you go for it. It’s totally doable at a fast walk. I also second the idea of using the Trumansburg Track for the 1600 when doing Run Rabbit Run.
