Now if only snowshoe racing could be added to the Winter Olympics, something I know @esambo has been up in arms about for years. (What is it with all Olympic winter sports having to involve sliding?)
I hate to be the cynic, but the problems with doping are so severe and the technology is now so advanced that I doubt there is such a thing as fair competition in any elite-level sport. I enjoy watching elite performance as much as the next person, but when we see how easy it is to cheat, even within the system (the famous “low thryoid” techniques, the narcolespy defence) it becomes difficult to watch the Olympics or Worlds. Amateur and college cross-country with no fame or fortune may somewhat escape this problem.
