Donate unwanted race medals and trophies for kids at track meets

Do you have old race medals or trophies you don’t want anymore? Donate them to FLRC—Ian set up a box at the running store so you can drop them off anytime—and we’ll give them out to kids who complete an event at a track meet.

We did this at the January Jicker and February Flash Dash with some old Finger Lakes 50s medals, a collection of medals from Julie Quinn, and trophies from David Keifer (@KeiferD).

The kids loved it! Many are well under 10, so they were happy to get a shiny medal or trophy and weren’t at all perturbed that it may have been for the 60-64 age group at some local 5K. Though Julie’s medals were pretty great—the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and more

The other big win was that kids could only pick out a medal after they had finished an event, and since we run heats slow to fast, that meant the youngest kids got first dibs. 1-year-old Theo Milano was rocking a Seneca 7 medal with a 1 on it, and another kid kept telling me how excited he was about his medal, which was in the shape of a castle.
