The Fillmore 5k took place on a hot and humid Saturday, June 12th in Moravia NY. There was an interesting mix of runners coming from towns in South Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and of course, Locke and Moravia. This race attracts many family members ranging in age from 2 to 73. The 2-year-old had bit of help from his dad pulling him in a wagon. We were delighted to see 73-year-old, Carl Franck continuing his running streak by competing again this year. The overall male winner, Alexander Simpson ran a fast 16:52. The overall Female winner was Liz Hartman running 20:40. Complete results can be found: https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=397529
This race is a fund raiser for Four Town First Aid Squad who provide course marshaling, water stop support, cheering and words of encouragement for all runners. The phrase “It takes a village” applies well here. Without these folks the race could not happen. We appreciate the support of the village of Moravia for the use of their cones, the Moravia Central School District for the use of the track and concession stand, Adam Engst and Jesse Koennecke, from the FLRC timing team, equipment manager, Gary McCheyne, Don Tily for setting up and tearing down the course and race founder Alan Lockett for volunteering.
