As is entirely appropriate, FLRC will hit the ground running in 2025 with six January races: four Winter Chill 5Ks, the January Jicker indoor track meet, and the Hartshorne Memorial Masters Mile.
They’re all fabulous, but the Winter Chills can be a bit nippy for much socializing, and Hartshorne is only open to masters runners who are over 40, making the January Jicker the club’s largest event for the month, with several hundred kids and adults on the track.
Join us at 9 AM on January 12 at Cornell’s warm, dry Barton Hall. All ages (seriously!) and abilities (really!) are welcome, and when you’re not running, you can enjoy watching some of the area’s best runners compete.
(We hope you like our new meet names! What’s a “jicker”? It’s both a Scots word meaning “to run smartly” and a midwinter storm in the Dr. Seuss book I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew. Next up are the February Flash Dash and the Strides of March. I’m open to suggestions for the June outdoor track meet.)
Check the meet page for all the details, but here are the key bits:
- Events: The January Jicker will feature the 5000m, 60m, 1 mile, 200m, and 4x200m relay. Field events will include the long jump and high jump. Compete in as many events as you like for the same fee.
- New to track? If you’ve never run a track meet before or never run one of ours, check out our First-Timer’s FAQ for Track Meets.
- Registration: Our Webscorer registration system worked well last year, but please follow the instructions on how to enter seed times correctly. Reply here or email me at ace@tidbits.com if you have questions. Also contact me if you need a new club or school team added to the menu.
See you at Barton Hall in January!
