FLRC Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 PM

Sorry for the late notice—it’s been a busy month. The FLRC Board of Directors will have its monthly meeting tonight, Wednesday, July 9, at 6:30 PM in person at 50 Hickory Road in Ithaca (off the Skunk Cabbage half marathon course). There will be build-your-own-tacos. :taco:

Our board meetings revolve around club and committee activity updates, including a report on the club’s financial position and quick coverage of past and upcoming races. This month, we’ll look at the results from Sunset Circuits, Tortoise & Hare, and Finger Lakes 50s, look at our new FLRC Track leaderboard, and discuss a draft of a Race and Workout Cancellation Policy.

I open each board meeting with a quick acknowledgment of those who have gone above and beyond in volunteering for the club. This month, I want to acknowledge Laurel Gilmer and Patrick Boyle for putting on an exceedingly smooth Tortoise & Hare, Jeney Wierman and Adam Moody for the incredible amount of work involved in making the Finger Lakes 50s a success, and Gary McCheyne for installing new shelves and clearing out the FLRC storage unit during FL50s. And, of course, thanks to everyone who contributed to these events in smaller ways—there are far too many to list!

At the board meeting, Finger Lakes 50s race director @Jeney asked that we also add Lucia Chen (@ej0456) and Makoto Endo (@makoto) to the exceptional volunteer list for the month, since they both helped with course clearing on Thursday, course marking on Friday, AND ran the race (25K for Lucia, 50K for Makoto) on Saturday. Lucia also volunteered for three separate jobs at Tortoise & Hare, and retrieved a runner with a sprained ankle in the middle. Makoto “only” worked at a water stop in that race.

We’re tremendously appreciative of and grateful to Lucia and Makoto for their efforts in supporting the running community!

One correction - Makoto also helped with sweeping and cleanup at Tortoise! We have a great volunteer community (and it’s fun)!

I should have known that Makoto did even more than he was signed up for!
