Friend of FLRC Scott Weeks, who was instrumental in bringing throwing events and hurdles to our summer track meets, passes on two Groton events that I’d encourage Ithaca-area runners to check out. The Labor Day 5K is a particularly well-organized 5K and a great course through Groton streets and an old railbed.
Youth will be able to race down Main Street in front of the parade. This is a FREE event open to all children. All participants will receive a completion ribbon at the finish line! All age groups will line up in front of the Groton Bank at 161 Main St, by 5:30pm Wear your Groton apparel if you have any, comfortable clothes, and sneakers. For planning purposes, please fill out the form below to let us know your child will be participating. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HBRFTDV (Form is not required to participate)
7yrs & under: .1 Mile
8-10yrs: .2 Mile
11-13yrs: .3 Mile
The course follows village streets (2.5 miles), an old railroad bed (.5 miles), and finishes on the high school track. Some flat terrain, with a few steady inclines and declines, and one short, steep hill just before the mile. This race is sponsored by and is a fundraiser for the Groton Cross Country Programs & the Groton Project. All proceeds benefit the Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Teams.
