After completing 2 courses Tatyana convinced me we should cool down by “walking” this course. It was a very brisk walk. I loved all the daffodils in bloom.
For this challenge I ran the Daffodil Dash 5K sponsored by the garden club April 13. Pretty miserable weather conditions with freezing rain and parts of the Cass Park parking lot and sidewalks flooding before the race, but I still got out there and we were fortunate to have most of the rain stop for the 5K.
I had been training with this race as my goal and stuck to a couple teenage boys (thank you teen boys and old men for your assistance to women’s running!!) through the race to achieve much more even splits than in my last several 5Ks.
I finished in 22:59 for a post high school PR by 25 seconds - replacing the 23:25 I ran at the Feb indoor track meet. Course measurement looks fine on my GPS so I’ll take it! They were not posting results or doing awards but I believe I was also the first woman.
All credit to the Barton track workouts (and to my Challenge and pre-Challenge long runs). Teamwork makes the dream work
I took Theo to Cass Park today for another Challenge course stroller run. We did the course twice: once easy and once faster in 19:46. Theo napped for most of the run.
I ran the the first-ever Tulip Trot 5k this morning in Mecklenburg, NY. It was a small race with only 43 registered competitors but the race organizers did a fantastic job. There were markers at each kilometer, scenic country roads, a great choice of post-race foods, and most important of all for us night-owls, a reasonable start time of 10:30 am!

Reposting becasue I don’t think I did it right to get stars. lol
This is me noticing Adam’s osprey nest on the left. I have included some osprey facts from a display on the run. Overall, a nice morning to run. Even with the wind
I made a late decision to run the Cayuga Heights Elementary School 5K because my Seneca7 and FLRC friends Peter Frazier and Kilian Weinberger were planning to run it before we met up with Tristan Lambert to tackle the Hammond Hill Hoctathon. Audun Dahl was also a late entrant, so it was fun to line up together before speeding up the first hill, surrounded by youthful exuberance.
The rolling course was tricky to pace and soon spread us out. Having run the London Marathon and the Seneca7 on the last two Sundays, I felt surprisingly OK for the first part of the race, but once Adrian Haws sped past me on the first downhill section, I knew I’d just have to to my best to cling on to his coattails. My heart rate continued to rise even as the gradient swung in our favor and I was glad to see the finish. I came in about four seconds after Adrian in 17:10, surprisingly close to my 5K PR.
Big thanks to everyone who made this community event possible, including FLRC’s Adam Engst!
That’s a great time, @rogmos, especially given that you’ve just raced through a marathon and a three-leg all-day relay in two weeks.
And remember, @Challengers, that you can count any 5K race as a Lakefront Loops 5K—just make sure to post a report and include a link to the results if possible, as Roger did above.
I would also note that five of the top six finishers are all running the Challenge: Adrian Haws in first, Roger in second, Audun Dahl in fourth, Peter Frazier in fifth, and Killian Weinberger in sixth. Make sure to submit your times!
Killian will have to lean on his son Timo (third) to run the Challenge if we want a top-six sweep.
Following up on @rogmos 's race report, I was happy that 3 of my Seneca7 friends & teammates (@rogmos@audundahl@Kilian_Weinberger) joined me in the running the Cayuga Heights Elementary School 5K, as a “warm up” before joining @Tristan_Lambert to run the Hammond Hill Hoctathon later that morning. Kilian 3x’d his contribution by bringing his two sons, Timo & Koby.
The race start, up a massive hill, was pretty quick and I was nervous that we’d started too fast. After the second hill, I lost sight of Roger + Adrian + the lead bike and tried to settle in behind Audun & Timo and not think too much about Kilian who I could hear was just behind me. On the back half of the course, Audun & Timo were trading back & forth down the hill and I just tried to stay with them. I was pretty close near the end and was hoping to kick past them for 3rd, but they both accelerated hard up the final hill and I was left in the dust as they crossed the line.
I came in at 18:24, trying to say hi to @JesseKoennecke and @Dave_K at the finish but failing due to lack of oxygen.
Magically I managed to PR, despite the hills. I credit the push from Audun & Timo & Kilian, the cool weather, and the seamless organization from @adamengst and the many volunteers.
Heather Wells (@Hez211) and Mark Wells deserve the bulk of the credit for the CHES 5K organization—they did a bang-up job for the second year in a row as race directors. FLRC’s Timing Team managed the finish line adroitly despite all the chaos of an elementary school 5K.
Posting a little late for the Cayuga Heights Elementary School 5k on Sunday. The predicted rain didn’t happen and it was a comfortable low-50s.
The long uphill to start and the downhill finish made the pacing interesting. It was enjoyable to run through Cayuga Heights and the volunteers were very helpful throughout the course. I was fortunate to run with @rogmos who kept me on my toes the entire race and finished a mere four seconds after me.
The event was well organized and it was great to see familiar faces and meet some new friends in the community.
I had planned to take on one of the longer courses this morning but weekend logistics ended up dictating a shorter run. Still, it was a great morning for a run and this course is beautiful! It’s a different run going solo rather than with a group but I enjoyed it all the same.
I ran the Women’s Distance Festival 5k today in Dryden to substitute for this course. The race organizers did a great job and it was wonderful seeing so many young girls out running with their moms!
