I’m in Pennsylvania during the Challenge’s opening weekend and was a bit disappointed to miss out on the kickoff group run, so I decided to look for a 5k race instead. I hopped in to the Bunny Run 5k in Aberdeen, Maryland.

After the gun went off it didn’t take long to sort out my position in the race. 1 and 2 didn’t waste time dropping me and no one was close behind me either. I ran mile 1 in 5:33 and was hoping to sustain that pace but I slowed to 5:43 and 5:41 in miles 2 and 3.

This was a so-so 5k for me but I had fun racing in a different place and I got a good fitness check. I have some work to do if I want to run a Sweet 1600 in the 4:40s this year.

Kicked off the challenge with Ian and Simon, and enjoyed the nice daffodils. Simon hasn’t run since last year and was pretty rusty, but still looking forward to the rest of the courses.

I didn’t get to join the Challenge kickoff run yesterday due to traveling but I’m glad I got to start the Challenge this weekend anyway with a gorgeous run on the Lakefront Loops course. The daffodils looked great!

I’m super excited to kick off another FLRC Challenge!! I ran the 5K course in my preferred reverse loops so that I can finish with the Treman Park Lake Loop. The daffodils are beautiful!

after running the Lakefront course, we walked through the Children’s Garden that’s adjacent to the course -and the volunteers there were busy as bees on Earth Day

It was a lovely day to try out Lakefront Loops. Alas, I should have set up RunGo ahead of time. I had forgotten to turn on location services, and then was having trouble hearing direction via AirPods. Hence, was a run, stop, run, stop experience. Ah well…All the better to enjoy the abundant daffodils!

I took Theo with me tonight for 2 rounds of Lakefront Loops. On the first lap we saw a beaver! None of his animal books have beavers in them so I think this might have been his first time ever learning about them.

I ran the Daffodil Dash 5k this morning pushing my son Theo in his stroller. Since the race was conveniently in Cass Park I was able to include the entire canonical Lakefront Loops course as part of my warm up (solo while my wife Lauren supervised Theo on the playground).

My main race goal was to beat my stroller PR (19:46, set in a solo time trial last year) or maybe even break 19 if I had a good day. I also wanted to place a high as possible.

After the race started it took some time to navigate the crowds and find my position. I moved into 3rd place and held it for a little while, but another runner passed me back and made a gap.

I was a few seconds back at the halfway point but I felt good, so I made a long push to reel him in. In the last mile I caught up and made a strong move to make a gap of my own and secure 3rd place in 19:05ish (official results haven’t been posted yet so I don’t know my exact time).

Walked this course this morning before the group run, watching the osprey glide on the wind.

A suspicious group of turkey vultures.

Despite the cold wet wind down on the waterfront, I thoroughly enjoyed running my first challenge course of the season! It was so nice to run with the group and catch up with @klaas , plus the daffodils were gorgeous. This was my first run back after taking 5 days off after Boston. My quads are feeling fine but that annoying right hamstring is acting up again.

Walked this with my boy, so many daffodils! And yay for vitamin D. 9th course.

I am thinking that walking is part of ultra training.

Well, knocking off another run on the 5K Challenge Course and a race 1.5 miles from my house (and I live in the middle of nowhere) that benefits a community park was enough motivation to get me out in the rain this morning.

I ran the 5K Tulip Trot in Mecklenburg. I’m familiar with the roads/route enough to know that there was a steep climb just past mile 2. And yes, the climb was just as steep as I remembered.

I couldn’t stick around post race, but according to the standings, I placed 1st in my age group (in a small field).

Fun time at the CHES 5K running through Cayuga Heights with a bunch of friendly people. Weather didn’t cooperate - it was definitely Ithacating throughout the morning, but that didn’t diminish the positivity!

Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K

Over this past weekend we ran the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge. This 5K starts in Weehawken New Jersey and has you running through the Lincoln Tunnel beneath the Hudson River to Manhattan where you turn around and run back. The event was well organized, benefited Special Olympics and was a lot of fun. Not often do you get the chance to run underwater.
