Last call for FLRC’s June 18 track meet at Lansing High School at 6 PM

FLRC’s first outdoor track meet of 2024 on June 18 is at Lansing High School at 6 PM. Registration closes at noon tomorrow.

Yes, it will be hot. The wet bulb temperature is predicted to be 76º, which this NCSA report suggests is under the “moderate risk” zone for track & field. There will be water at the track, and I encourage everyone to hydrate well all day and bring their own water bottle for sipping throughout the meet. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Most of the events are short (100, 200m, 400m), and runners should compete only if they feel well. The 1600m is our longest distance, and runners should slow down or drop out if they start to overheat.

To help beat the heat, we’ll be bringing extra tents to provide more shade in case the forecasted clouds don’t appear at the right time, a cooler full of ice packs in case anyone needs to cool down quickly, and a hose sprinkler for anyone who wants to get spritzed.

A few notes:

  • Events: The June events will be the 100m, 1600m, 200m, 400m, in that order, plus the long jump, high jump, shot put, and discus throughout (thanks to Team SOAR and the Groton Project for managing the field events). We’ll also have a 4x200m relay that you’ll sign up for at the meet. Register today—there is no registration at the meet!
  • New to track? If you’ve never run a track meet before, or never run one of ours, check out our First-Timer’s FAQ for Track Meets. If you have additional questions, just ask!
  • Easier registration: Our Webscorer registration system worked well this winter, but reply here or email me at ace@tidbits.com if you have issues. Also contact me if you need a new club or school team added to the menu.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Lansing High School track tomorrow evening!
