Black Snakes and Bee Balm
Got started very late in the morning, so already warm and still humid conditions. Had a quiet run with various bird sounds but no other people crossing my path. About a quarter mile in, or so, I came across this guy. I had my sunglasses on and it was shaded, requiring some nifty acrobatics and contortions to avoid stepping on him at the last second. He was completely still for the half minute or so that I watched him.
Usually, I remember which flowers are blooming at the times I run repeat courses. But, I was still pleasantly surprised to see the bee balm blooming just past the CCC Camp marker, even though I should have remembered it from just last year. Probably 40-50 blooms currently in this patch.
Added a quarter mile bonus on the road with the campground when I wasn’t paying attention and missed the turn back onto the FLT. Most of the trail is in good shape but there are still some overgrown stretches and I would advise tick repellent. I reapplied Deep Woods OFF! several times during my run.
