PGXC #3 2024: Taughannock Falls State Park General Logistics

Hello, @pgxc-flrc and @pgxc-high-noon!

Our home meet is this Sunday, 10/20, at Taughannock Falls State Park. The 6K race stays on the flat part of the park, running along the lake shore and taking the gorge trail to the base of the falls. Spikes are not recommended on the trail surface.

Because the location is close to home, we are not organizing a carpool. If you need a ride or if you wish to reduce the number of cars involved in this event, please reply to this forum post with your information so a carpool can be self-organized.

Check out the course map to see the location of the Registration area at the right; the FLRC tent will be in this area.

Before the Race

The race starts at 11am, so we suggest you aim to arrive at Taughannock around 10am. When you arrive, pick up your number from the main race organizing table, and drop off your stuff and find team members at the FLRC tent. Extra jerseys will be at the tent. (If you don’t already have a jersey, wear a blue or black shirt that you like for racing in case they have all been borrowed before you arrive.) Aim to get to the start line 5–10 minutes before the race so you can join the team cheer and hear announcements.

After the Race

When you finish running, stick around near the finish line to cheer for your teammates. Do a post-race cool-down jog with others on the team. There will be post-race refreshments, provided by the PGXC series, such as bananas, oranges, and bagels. We know the bagels will be better this time because we are picking up 14 dozen CTB bagels on race morning!

A half-hour or so after all runners finish, there will be an awards ceremony for individuals (who win chocolate) and age-group teams (who win beer for our post-season party) that placed well.

Team Lunch

After the awards ceremony, those who want to seek more substantial lunch food or refreshments can join us at Garrett’s Brewing Company at 1 West Main Street in Trumansburg (Google map pin). They don’t take group reservations, but we called ahead, so they are expecting people from the Finger Lakes Runners Club.

Volunteers

A big thanks to @JesseKoennecke for organizing our home race and setting the course this year. If you see him on Sunday, be sure to say “Thank you!” And, if you know someone who would enjoy volunteering, please check HelperHelper for open volunteer slots. It looks like we will have wonderful weather on Sunday—a great day to get out and volunteer at Taughannock.

See you Sunday!

We can bring 3 in our car and we have an empire pass. Text me at 315-807-8106 if you want to carpool or don’t want to pay the park fee.
