Hello! I’m wondering if anyone here has recommendations for a sports physician or foot and ankle specialist or even a general orthopedist within ~2 hours of Ithaca (I’ve already seen many local physicians – details below)
The issue: if I run >4 miles and/or run any distance faster than, say, 9:30/mi, I get pain in my arch and the outside of my foot near my ankle. The pain will last for days. If I run <4 miles slowly, I don’t have any pain. This has been going on for over a year and I’m itching to return to speed work and distance!
I’ve seen Dr. Kadlecik at Ithaca Podiatry Associates who referred me Dr. Seemant at Cayuga Sports Med who referred me to Dr. Macaulay at Cayuga Health. I’ve had several x-rays and MRIs. Dr. Seemant and Dr. Macaulay can’t figure out what’s going. They notice something that lights up on the x-rays but doesn’t appear to be an actual fracture and doesn’t get better or worse. They think it could be a bone cyst inside the joint but they both just recommend running slowly, resting, wearing a boot, and doing PT. I’ve done months and months of PT but it hasn’t helped because the pain doesn’t occur unless I’m doing distance or speed. I asked Dr. Seemant for recommendations for other physicians I could see (happy to drive a ways) but he didn’t have any. Please help! It’s almost fall – my favorite time for trail runs – and I’m so sad I can’t do the type of running I love to do.
