Register now for Danby Down & Dirty on Saturday, October 11

Registration is open for FLRC’s 2025 trail series finale—the Danby Down & Dirty 10K and 23K trail runs on Saturday, October 11th!

This classic race has been going on for about 30 years (exact age unknown). The event sports two distances covering smooth forest roads, burly singletrack, and hills, Hills, HILLS, as it winds through Danby State Forest on the Abbott Loop and Finger Lakes Trail, making its way down and back up through two ravines. If it’s a clear morning, the first major climb will yield a beautiful valley view painted with the area’s best fall foliage. Both races are the last opportunity to earn points on the FLRC Trail Circuit this year. Runners age 18 and under may register for free.

Sign up to carpool to help fight climate change and to nab a parking spot closer to the staging area.

Volunteers are what make this and other FLRC events possible. If you aren’t running the race and can help out, or are running and willing and able to pitch in a little before and/or after your run, please sign up via Helper Helper. Fun, friends, and free breakfast—it’s a great way to spend a crisp October morning.

Happy trails!

Hi everyone, quick question. For the Danby Down and Dirty are we allowed to walk some of it and treat it more as a hike rather than a run?

Hey Sasha! I think the only thing to be aware of is that ‘all 23K runners coming through the 10K mark after 10:30 AM will be directed to the finish line. This is a hard cutoff.’ - but @Petorius will be able to confirm!

Absolutely! A lot of people walk the hills and/or muddier spots, which is common in trail running races. The 10k is hiker-friendly, and we usually have at least a few people that walk the whole thing. For the 23k (14.2-mile) course there is a 90-minute cutoff at mile 6, which means you’d have to run at least some of it.
