Results and photos from Forest Frolic 2023

Much frolicking took place in Kennedy State Forest in Virgil, thanks to excellent preparation from race directors Pete Dady and Mike Stone and a crew of dedicated FLRC volunteers. Tonya Engst handled registration with help from Julie Barclay and Heather Cobb. Heather also worked with Adam Engst, Laurel Gilmer, Banyan Love, and Larry Lepak to time the race and manage the finish line. Makoto Endo and Zsophia Franck directed runners at intersections, and Scotie Jacobs and Jon Marks swept the course.

  • 7K winners: The 7K was a family affair, with 50-year-old Brian Lee taking the title for the men in 32:05 and his 20-year-old daughter Margo Lee putting her college track conditioning to good use to win for the women and place third overall in 38:04, nearly 2 minutes faster than last year.

  • 15K winners: In the 15K, 43-year-old Dan Timmerman and 40-year-old Chelsea Benson defended their crowns, with Dan dropping 10 seconds from his 2022 time to win in 1:04:15 and Chelsea running just a bit slower than 2022 to top the women in 1:16:26.

The race conditions were near perfect, with cool, sunny temperatures, few bugs, and just enough mud and water to keep the course interesting.

Full results are now available on the FLRC site, and we’ll have the results up on the Trail Circuit Leaderboard soon. FLRC’s community photo library now has hundreds of candid and action shots from race photographer Jamie Love and course marshal Makoto Endo.
