@pgxc-flrc @pgxc-high-noon We’re starting to hit our stride in the PGXC series, fielding 44 runners and all but Ultra Vet teams for the second race of the year last Sunday in Auburn’s Everest Park. Then a bunch of us enjoyed post-race brunch pizzas in the sunshine at Summerhill Brewing—truly an afternoon that couldn’t be beat.
Full results are available, with more individual podium finishes (chocolate!) and team wins—both by 1 point!—from the FLRC U19 team and the FLRC Women’s Vets team. Look for race photos from Lauren Milano and Erica Herman.
In the U19 division, the Hulsey family stepped up once again, with 16-year-old Kate Hulsey taking second overall and her twin Gretchen Hulsey taking third, with 14-year-old Charlotte Hulsey finishing the scoring in fifth. Filling out the team were 15-year-old Cecelia Clemons in her first PGXC race and 12-year-old Finley Hulsey. The team’s 10 points were just enough to sneak by the Syracuse Track Club’s 11 (they placed 1-4-6 to our 2-3-5).
The surprise win of the day came from the Women’s Vets team, which also won 10 to 11, with Julie Barclay taking the division crown overall, Kim Jackson in fourth, and Tonya Engst in fifth. Ruth Sproul filled out the team. Even more impressive was how they did it, with Tonya beating the Checkers AC third woman by just 3 seconds. (In fact, both Tonya and Julie also beat other women in the age group by 1 second, but they weren’t on scoring teams. Kicking to the finish matters!) Our 1-4-5 was just enough to beach Checkers’ 2-3-6.
