See you at IHS for the 51st Anniversary of the Ithaca Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning!

Thanksgiving is the day after tomorrow, and what better way to start the holiday than by running or walking the 51st anniversary of FLRC’s festive Turkey Trot prediction run – it’s not a race! – at Ithaca High School. Bring your friends and family! Silly hats are optional.

New for this year, everyone must register online. The Turkey Trot remains free to enter, but to calculate results more quickly, we’re using a new system that requires all runners to wear custom-designed race bibs that we scan at the finish.

Call for Volunteers: Do you have a friend or family member who wants to participate but isn’t up for a run or walk? We can always use volunteers, so check out our volunteer opportunities.

Predict how long it will take you to run/jog/walk/crawl 5.5 miles (or any distance you desire—course cutting is fine, wearing a watch is not), and once you’re done, enjoy post-run refreshments provided by Wegmans. The people with the closest time predictions win a pie from Purity Ice Cream for their Thanksgiving dinner table.

The event is a fundraiser for Loaves & Fishes of Tompkins County, a non-profit organization that provides a place for free meals, hospitality, companionship, and advocacy for those in need in the community—they serve over 5,000 meals per month. You can donate online or bring cash to the run (suggested donation is $10).

Please come to the Ithaca High School between 7:30 and 8:30 AM for the 9:00 AM start. In addition to an online course map, RunGo directions are available for iOS, Android, or Apple Watch, too.

Thanks Scott for doing this! Wish I wasn’t going to miss it, Happy Thanksgiving to you all!, Carl

A question for more experienced runners … Should I be wearing spikes (or something similar) tomorrow on account of the snow?

Trail shoes with some traction would be welcome on the trail hill, which is pretty steep. Spikes are really appropriate only for cross-country courses and for some people on the track.
