Sign up now for our Super Frosty Loomis snowshoe race on February 12th

Good day, runners! We’re pleased to announce that registration is open for Super Frosty Loomis, FLRC’s annual 5K and 10K snowshoe race at Hammond Hill, held on Sunday, February 12th. (Note the change to Sunday this year.) This is a great opportunity for snowshoe-running newbies to get their toes cold and try out the sport!

If you don’t have snowshoes, we have a limited number available to rent for $10 a pair. Please be sure to add your rentals during registration. The race is limited to 45 runners, and there will be a waitlist. The limitation is due to parking space, so sign up to carpool and allow us to open up the race to more people.

A port-o-john will be available at the parking lot, but there is no running water or changing facilities. Plan to change and/or keep warm in your car. We plan to have the warming hut open, but bib pickup will be outside.

We hope to bring back the post-race celebration at the Dryden Hotel at noon. If we cannot hold the post-race gathering indoors, we’ll give out awards near the finish line immediately following the race. We will announce this closer to race day.

See you soon at Hammond Hill!

If there’s no snow is it going rescheduled or changed into a trail race?

We do not currently have plans for a make up date. Changing to a trail race would need to be decided based on trail conditions. Hammond hill can be a tricky trail to run when dry, adding ice or slippery snow may not be safe. Our best hope is for more snow, so we get an even surface and a great race conditions.

Maybe we can just borrow the snow making equipment from Greek Peak?

Here is an article outlining several more unconventional methods for generating snow.

I’m sure if we get enough people trying all combinations of these things we should be able to kick something loose.
