Thoughts about carpooling to PGXC races in 2021

Good day, @pgxc-high-noon and @pgxc-women,

One of our dearly held traditions surrounding the PGXC series is meeting at the Vet School parking lot and carpooling up to the races together. It’s tremendously enjoyable to spend a few hours in the car with friends old and new, and it’s something we look forward to every year.

Unfortunately, given the dramatic rise in COVID-19 infections in our community recently, we just can’t see doing big group carpools this year, even if everyone is vaccinated. However:

  • If you’d like to carpool up to races with one or more particular friends with whom you’re entirely comfortable, you’re welcome to do that.

  • If you’re willing to offer a ride to anyone who doesn’t have access to a car, let us know.

  • If you don’t have access to a car and can’t arrange a ride with a friend, let us know and we’ll see if we can match you up with someone in the previous category.

Thoughts? Nothing is set in stone here—this is just what we’ve been thinking and discussing with various runners.

Speaking of vaccinations, we have no way to require proof of vaccination, but I sincerely hope everyone who is planning to run is fully vaccinated. I would be mortified if an unvaccinated FLRC or High Noon runner were the source of future infections among other runners in upstate New York, particularly since many of the participants in the PGXC series are on the older end of the spectrum.
