…along the Treeman trailpop … and yes, I resisted using the classic song name. Knew this was going to be hard run for me so just took it easy and did my best … had some beautiful wildflowers during one stretch and just a few squishy points- and NO bugs. in fact, there was very little wildlife out - only one chipmunk at the 7 mile mark yelling at me for interrupting its breakfast. Only people I saw were in the parking lot at the end…. https://strava.app.link/ZghWVsjsd3b
The course is pretty dry now and Lick Brook Falls is a little more than a trickle, but there is still water in the creek there to dip your hat in before starting the climb. The creek crossing by the RR bridge is barely ankle deep, if you are so inclined. It is so dry, I almost took the FLT instead of Yaple Road but I wanted to bake on the blacktop as much as I could today.
FYI those are actually invasive dame’s rocket, otherwise known as false phlox because they look so similar. Dame’s rocket has 4 petals and phlox has 5. Still beautiful, though!
Great day for a trail with great company! Thanks to @melissawallace, @johnhummel22 and @ludemek for making the miles go faster. Perfect weather didn’t hurt.
Hooray! With this course I have now completed all 10 of the core challenge courses for 2026! I am super happy I got this run in before the coming heat and smog of summer. I made a couple of slight errors costing me a few seconds but otherwise it was a fairly decent run with no major mishaps. However, I am quite certain there is more up than down on this course . The course is fairly dry, and except for the road sections was fairly cool and shady this early morning. Some tall grasses were kissing my cheeks as I ran through the upper field. Tick repellent is a must.
