@Challengers We’ve turned the corner and are cruising downhill on the FLRC Challenge now, with just 7 weeks left. People continue to sign up, and we’re now at 150 participants, with Evelyn Goldwasser, Daniela Graffeo, Kaleb Smith, Andrew Flyak, and Wendy Wolford joining us in the last two weeks. Welcome, and be sure to check the new calendar on the FLRC home page (scroll down) for the dates of the rest of our Challenge group runs.
Despite losing some miles to the heat and people being tired from Finger Lakes 50s last weekend, we’re on track to exceed 6,000 miles this weekend—can we break 10,000 for the year?
Many of our miles this week came from Gill Haines-Sharp, who ran through the heat on Saturday to complete her second Tough Trail Challenge, and from Tanya Burnett, who claimed her medal by completing North Country Half for her final course. That’s 17 people done for the year.
Speaking of medals—they’re here, and they look great. If you’ve recorded only a couple of courses, now’s the time to get things in gear so you’ll earn one of these babies. I’m hoping to see a lot of activity this weekend as Brian Harrington, Scott Dawson, Yamil Molina, Matt Clark, and Gretchen Gilbert all have just one course left to finish.
Now that the trails have dried, there’s no excuse not to tackle Abbott Ascent this Sunday with the group, and there will be watermelon to share afterward. If you’re feeling particularly spritely, you could even run the Fillmore 5K on Saturday and count it as a Lakefront Loops 5K effort.
Let’s get out there and cover some ground!
