We have another four Challenge finishers this week, @Challengers, bringing our total to 32. Congratulations to Julie Cooper, Roger Moseley, Paula Klaben, and Amy Dawson, all of whom claimed their medals. And because I can’t resist sharing it again, here’s the big purple medal they’ll all receive at the FLRC Annual Picnic on September 19. Mark your calendars and consider it incentive to finish off those last few courses!
Roger Moseley’s fast Sweet 1600 from Trackapalooza was both his tenth course and speedy enough to move him into second place in both Most Points and Age Grade. It also made him the @Fantastic-40s top team member and helped that team extend its lead over the @Fabulous-50s. (If you’re curious about how the Score column is calculated, Steve Desmond explained it recently. To view team members, click a team age range anywhere on the leaderboard, then click Team Members in the upper-right corner of the Team page.)
Overall, we’ve cruised past the 9,000-mile mark, and with a good week next week, we might exceed 10,000 miles for the year. We’ll undoubtedly pass 2,000 total Challenge runs. Much of that mileage was on Lakefront Loops 5K and Run Rabbit Run, both of which ticked past the 1,000-mile mark, with Freeville Fly-In needing only three more runs to get there.
A bunch of those miles came from Pete Kresock, who completed the Tough Tarmac Challenge last Friday after the recap came out. He’s the first person to complete all three Ultra Challenges independently and is one of four people who have run all the courses twice, alongside Rebecca Lambert, Tristan Lambert, and Melissa Plank.
For photos of the week, I’m going to focus on Gerald McKinley for this shot of his Sweet 1600 on the University of Michigan track and his Freeville Fly-In selfie since he’s returning to Canada after tomorrow’s Run Rabbit Run informal group run at 7 AM. We’ll miss him!
On Saturday, Tonya and I will pick up some bagels and join the runners after the run at Scott and Amy Dawson’s house for an impromptu gathering. Feel free to come for Gerald’s last run and medal award ceremony!
Regardless, the other club activity for the weekend is the Forest Frolic trail race, which has 7K and 15K distances on some of the nicest trails around in the Kennedy State Forest. It should be a glorious day for some trail running, so I hope to see many of you there.
Until next week, keep covering the ground!
