@Challengers Three more weeks left! Unless you like living dangerously with an FLRC Ultra Challenge scheduled for the morning of September 1, now’s the time to plan out your remaining courses.
We just logged the second-most weekly miles of the year despite some dubious air quality days, such that we’re now closing in on 8,100 miles for the year. The big group run on the Triple Hump course last weekend undoubtedly helped, and this week’s group run on the North Country Half course should goose next week’s numbers as well. (It’s also a good chance to pick up your FLRC Challenge shirt if you haven’t gotten it already.)
We’re now up to 29 finishers total, with three more people claiming their medals this week. Congrats to Kris Haines-Sharp, Gail Tremblay, and Nora McIver-Sheridan, who moved into first place for Most Points and Age Grade. The wildcards for Most Points for women remain Bella Burda, who just has a Sweet 1600 to run, and Sarah Woodyear, who has four more courses to complete. The other big change on the leaderboard is Andy Klepack sprinting into the lead for Most Points for men, pushing Patrick Milano into second. But neither is done, with Andy having Black Diamond Cass to Gorge left and Patrick needing Cayuga Cliffs and Abbott Ascent.
The team competition is heating up a little too, with the @Fantastic-40s waking up a bit and moving ahead of the @Super-60s-70s for the first time in a while, 47 points to 50. The @Fabulous-50s remain solidly in the lead with 29 points, but things could still change.
Some good photos this week from The Foraging Warrens, who were berry distracted on Cayuga Cliffs…
From Heather Cobb, who joined the shoe surgery club to let her pinky toes breathe (and see Joel Cisne’s lovely Skunk Cabbage half 9-mile marker)…
And to Caitlin Loehr, for snagging some shots of the juvenile red-tailed hawks that live by the Cornell track. Think of them the next time you need some incentive to kick that final 100m.
See you at the North Country Half group run on Sunday, where we can cover a lot more ground!
