FLRC Challenge group run at Lick Brook Sunday 8/10 at 8:30 AM (North Country Half)

As those who have subscribed to the new club events calendar on the FLRC home page know, we’re up to our last and longest FLRC Challenge course group run, the 13.1-mile North Country Half! If you’ve been working your way up to this course, this is your chance to do it with friends.

The weather looks good—not too hot in the morning—but the AQI has been unpredictable. In accordance with the race and workout cancellation guidelines I’ve been working on, I’ll check the predicted AQI the night before, and if it’s over 150, we’ll cancel—check back here before leaving for the run in the morning. If it’s between 100 and 150, sensitive individuals shouldn’t come; if it’s between 50 and 100, consider reducing intensity.

Check the course page for a Google Map pin and RunGo directions, which are easiest to set up at home. We’ll meet at the Lick Brook parking lot at 8:30 AM and aim to start at 8:45 AM. I plan to have water at the Woodard Road crossing at 3.5/9.5 miles and possibly also at the turnaround. And then we’ll have bagels and watermelon and other snacks at the end.

Please RSVP below so we can plan food quantities. There will be people at various paces, and if you need a ride or have any questions, just reply to this post.

Please RSVP so we can plan snackage

Neither FLRC membership nor FLRC Challenge participation is required, and everyone is welcome, regardless of pace, age, or bagel flavor preference. If you haven’t yet registered for the FLRC Challenge, please sign the FLRC 2025 Training Programs waiver. You only need to sign once for all 2025 group runs, so if you’ve already done so, you’re all set—check here.)

Is there any chance I could grab a ride from soneone?

Yessir. Will text you!

I scouted the North Country Half Course for those doing the group run tomorrow.

I started around 6:20 am. Directions are practically Sarah proof which is saying something!! I drank about 1.5 L of water, but admittedly, I started under hydrated. Bugs were minimal on the way out, but I “ran” into some mosquitoes the last 3 or so miles.

Around mile 1.75, there are some trees down across the trail, but they are no problem to get around. Trail is mowed!! I had no problem picking up the trail at Hines Road, but not too far past there, I lost it. I came out in a field of goldenrod (there is a truck near that area). Don’t go into the field. I didn’t think the trail was obvious in this area, but it was easier to follow on the way back. Also around this area is a 2x3’ wooden ‘bridge’ for crossing, be careful, it’s more like a balance board! :winking_face_with_tongue:

The only other issue I had was after you pick up the trail off of Rockwell Road, you come out in a plowed field where the perimeter is mowed. You turn left to follow the trail. I did not get a cue here. Also, there is a shoe sucking wet/mud stretch when you duck back into the trees for a short stretch. I avoided it on the way back by sticking to the edge of the field. :grimacing:

Hi Adam,
I’ll be there tomorrow. Looking forward.
Thanks,
Larry

@lgilmer and I are going to meet at the group run location at 7:50 AM tomorrow morning and aim to start running at 8 AM. It shouldn’t be unreasonably hot tomorrow, but we think we’ll be more comfortable if we get more running done when it’s cooler.

If you are ready to run at 8 tomorrow and want to join us, please do. We aren’t fully in shape for this distance and plan to walk the more challenging up hills.

For Garmin users, this route is available on the Connect app as:
North-Country-Half FLRC 2025

Sounds like a good plan! I’ll meet you both there at 7:50
