You Know The Drill: Young At Heart Group Run 7/24 (with pizza!)

Happy Thursday! Are you ready to cut through the humidity with a friendly run and a cold beer/beverage of your choice? Join us for our Thursday run-- all are welcome!!!

Our run from Bike Bar on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 5:30pm (setting off at 5:45pm) will set off as normal in differing pace groups for around 30ish minutes, before returning for a chance to chat in Bike Bar afterwards - you can decide with the people running with you where you want to go, and how far too .

Please reach out to @jonlewis or myself if you have any questions about coming for the first time, it is always lovely to have new folks attend their first FLRC run, and we continue to have new people back for the summer in Ithaca!

Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability, pace, or anything else. All paces and people are welcome! This is a free activity and club membership is not required, but please sign the FLRC 2025 Training Programs before your first run this year. You only need to sign the waiver once for all 2025 group runs, so if you’ve already signed it, you’re all set—check here

Are you still holding the run with the heat advisory?

It’s up to @kcmccormick8 and @jonlewis, of course, but I’m seeing a wet bulb globe temperature of 75º for 5 PM through 7 PM. In the draft policy that I’m working on for race and workout cancellation guidelines, that’s in the “73º to 79º: Consider cancellation” category for workouts.

If this were a group trail run where water or aid wouldn’t be readily available, I would probably cancel. If it were a Tuesday night workout where people expect to run hard, I would probably go ahead but try to keep people in the shade, reduce the intensity, make sure they could get water, and encourage use of the splash pad.

For this particular group run, which is only 30 minutes in an urban environment and can be as easy as desired, I probably wouldn’t cancel but would tell everyone to take it slow and cut things short if necessary. It would also be worth keeping track of who leaves and make sure that everyone returns. And anyone who was concerned could just save seats at Bike Bar!
