2025 FLRC Challenge Completions

In fact, @Challengers, three people took advantage of yesterday’s weather to complete their final course. Kudos to Rachel Neugarten for knocking off a Sweet 1600 to claim her medal for the year!

@Challengers We have another finisher—Nora McIver-Sheridan ran the fastest North Country Half for women so far to claim her medal and move into first place for Most Points and Age Grade. Congrats!

(In other leaderboard news, Brian Harrington improved on his Triple Hump time by over 10 minutes this morning, enough to retake third in Most Points from men after losing it to Sten Anderson a few days ago.)

@Challengers Kudos to Gail Tremblay, who claimed her medal by completing Abbott Ascent yesterday for her final course. 28 people done!

We have our 29th finisher, @Challengers—congratulations to Kris Haines-Sharp, who took a one-and-done approach, culminating with an easy Abbott Ascent yesterday. That also moves her into fifth place for Most Points for women, just behind Gill Haines-Sharp who is one Triple Hump away from running every course five times! Kris is also in seventh place for Age Grade, but she could ratchet up her percentage easily by actually running a couple of courses that she hiked.

Kudos to Sarah Giesy not just for completing the North Country Half for her tenth course but also reporting on the trail conditions for the group run tomorrow!

30 out of 154 @Challengers have now claimed their medals.

It was a hot day yesterday, @Challengers, but that didn’t stop a big group from tackling the North Country Half. Congrats to Laurel Gilmer, Tonya Engst, and Bill Hartnett for claiming their medals on that course yesterday, and Hannah Grazul took down Triple Hump to claim hers. 34 finishers!

@Challengers Congrats to Andy Klepack, who ran an easy Black Diamond Cass to Gorge to complete his challenge and claim his medal. Although he was in first place for Most Points last week, Patrick Milano also laid down the fastest Abbott Ascent this week to retake the lead. Technically speaking, Andy could run a faster Black Diamond and possibly Triple Hump to exceed Patrick’s point total, but Patrick still has all the Cayuga Cliffs points to garner.

I’m not sure where best to share this, but yesterday I finished my own personal goal of completing every FLRC Challenge course from all five years. 50 courses (a few are repeated), 316.8 miles. Most of it doesn’t count toward any part of the ‘25 Challenge, but it was my own goal to see if I could do it.

My goal was do them all during this year’s Challenge, with the self-imposed rule they each run had to be a valid Challenge entry. That is, cover the ground continuously and record the elapsed time, but not necessarily start and end at the sign. The only exceptions were Taughannock Rim & Falls and Run Rabbit, where I took the shortest possible detours to avoid construction work and trail closures at upper Taughannock.

The basic strategy was to do all the 2025 corses first, then all the Ithaca ones and the ones furthest from Lansing before moving to Lansing at the end of June. Most of these I could do early on weekdays before the kids got up and I had to get ready for work. After moving I found time for the rest and saved Ludlowville Loop for the end because I could run out my new front door without having to drive anywhere.

That’s hugely impressive, @Petorius, and I’m super pleased that all the previous courses saw some action again.

Wow - what an amazing accomplishment!

Two more completions this week, @Challengers, with James Dean claiming his medal with a quick Sweet 1600 after last weekend’s North Country Half, and Andrew Flyak, a regular at our Tuesday night workouts, tackling North Country Half in the excellent running weather this morning.

The weekend saw three completions, @Challengers. First, Patrick Milano ran his final course on Cayuga Cliffs in the second-fastest time of the year (with Ryan Jacobsen maintaining his course lead) to set the high-water mark on Most Points for men with 966.64. Then, Inger Aaberg ran all ten of her courses yesterday for the FLRC 100K Ultra Challenge, and Heather Cobb took advantage of the weather today to complete Abbott Ascent to claim her medal. I am unreasonably amused by the fact that Inger and Heather filled the 38th and 39th finisher spots, matching their ages. Congrats, all!

I saw that same slot/age thing and found it amusing too!

@Challengers Congrats to Anne Shakespeare, our third 70+ finisher alongside Ruth Sproul and Steve Ryan, for claiming her medal with a Black Diamond Cass to Gorge completion! 41 people done.

@Challengers Congrats to Nick Andrews, who took advantage of the cool damp this morning to run his remaining two courses, the Town & Gown Up & Down and the Sweet 1600. Those efforts also move him into seventh place overall in Most Points for men.

Yesterday saw completions from our two youngest @Challengers, Adrian Kresock and Joel Kresock. Their Personal Challenge was to cover the ground on the Sweet 1600, Mulholland Waterfalls, and Lakefront Loops 5K courses, and while on a cruise in Alaska, they finished off with a Sweet 1600 on the ship’s deck track. Congrats to Adrian and Joel, and they’ve definitely earned their medals again this year!

Hi Adam - Scott should have shown up as completed too. I accompanied him on his last Challenge course: Lakefront Loops.

From his Athlete page on the leaderboard, it looks like his Black Diamond Cass to Gorge didn’t post.

For anyone else having this problem, check your Athlete page and then use the instructions on the Timing page to repost missing efforts.

Thanks Adam. We did it together on June 19. I will have him follow the instructions.

@Challengers Two more completions—congrats to Scott Nissenson and Sarah Woodyear! By laying down not just the fastest time for women on Abbott Ascent, but also the fastest time overall, Sarah claims her first FLRC Challenge medal and leaps into the lead for Most Points and Age Grade.
