Hello, @pgxc-flrc and @pgxc-high-noon!
We’ll be racing on Sunday, 9/21, at Bassett Park (359 Klein Rd, Williamsville, NY 14221), which is roughly a 2:45 drive. This will be our third year running this course, and it is a pleasant, mostly flat, grassy course. The course map shows parking at its upper left.
To sign up for this race – or any race – scroll down a little on the PGXC Cross-Country Teams page to find links for signing up and adding yourself to the roster.
Below is info about lodging, carpool, at-the-race, and an intriguing post-race lunch stop.
Optional free lodging
FLRC is paying for overnight lodging on Saturday before the race, thanks to leadership and coordination from Jon Lewis (@jonlewis). If you’d like to join the team for the overnight and/or dinner, see the full description of this option with signup info. Contact Jon if you have questions or to coordinate on carpooling for this stay-overnight option, and put your name on the signup form by the end of Tuesday to guarantee your free lodging spot.
Sunday carpool
On Sunday, we’ll have our usual carpool routine:
-
The main carpool will leave from the southwest corner of Cornell’s B-lot on Sunday morning (see image below). Plan to arrive at 6:45 AM. Jay Hubisz (@hubitron) will sort people into cars for a departure at 7:00 AM sharp.
-
Since there may be only a few cars going to Buffalo, please share your plans in the comments for this post on the FLRC Forum (or text Tonya at 607-275-8383): Do you need a ride? Can you provide one? Are you driving up independently from the B-lot (and can you offer a ride to anyone else)? Adam and Tonya will not be at the B-lot (or the overnight) to carpool, as they have other plans for travel to Buffalo.
At the race
The race starts at 11 AM, so we suggest you aim to arrive at Bassett Park around 10 AM. When you arrive, drop off your gear and find team members at the FLRC tent. Then, pick up your number from the main race organizing table. If you ordered a PGXC shirt, be sure to pick it up from the main race organizing table.
Extra FLRC and High Noon jerseys will be available to sign out at the FLRC tent. (If you will be borrowing a jersey, wear a blue or black shirt that you like for racing in case we don’t have one in your size.) Aim to get to the start line 5–10 minutes before the race so you can join the team cheer and hear announcements.
After the race
When you finish running, cheer for any teammates who are still racing. Do a post-race cooldown jog with others on the team. There will be post-race refreshments, provided by the PGXC series, such as bananas, oranges, energy bars, and chips/pretzels.
A half-hour or so after all runners finish, there will be an awards ceremony for individuals and age-group teams. We’ll pack up and leave after that.
The race is 5 miles from Althea’s Chocolates at 8301 Main St., Williamsville, NY 14221, on the way to I-90, so you may want to stop for treats or gifts on your way to or from the race. (Wonderful chocolates!)
Adam and I will be stopping at Okay Beer Company, at 126 W. Main St., Honeoye Falls, NY 14472, to stretch our legs and grab a meal, and we hope to see lots of other team members there.
If you read this far and still want more info, check out the FAQ or ask us!
See you on Sunday! —Tonya & Adam
