Scavenger Hunt: Week 1

Scavenger Hunt: Week 1 (December 15 - December 21)

Welcome to the FLRC’s Happy Holidays Scavenger Hunt! Below you’ll find the list of items for week 1 which runs Monday, December 15 - Sunday December 21. Find as many of these items as you can and feel welcome to get creative with it!

  • Speed limit sign
  • Decorated mailbox or light pole
  • An outdoor decorated tree
  • Sunset or sunrise
  • Run with a friend / family member (pets count!)
    Bonus Items!
  • Animal Tracks
  • FLRC Gear or Holiday themed attire

Remember, for every selfie or picture of one of these items that you post, you get one point and the bonus items are worth two points. The runner(s) with the most points will be entered into the swag drawing at the end of the event. And, while five might seem to be the high score, I as the omnipotent race director get to award extra points based on particularly creative or artistic photos, or those that get lots of “likes” here on the Forum.

Today I saw deer tracks by an outside decorated tree, a decorated mailbox, a speed limit sign, a sunset, and I wore my Ithaca Turkey Trot shirt!

Today I set out to run the FLRC Tuesday night speed workout on the East Hill Recway while also picking up at least one scavenger hunt photo – I was certain I could find a speed limit sign. I was pleased to find my track buddy @ken.hodges also doing the workout, and we kept passing one another, so I took a selfie of us for “run with a friend.” I also saw @Ian and one of his daughters more than once, but didn’t get a photo. Happily, it was also a lovely sunset, as you can see in my “two-fer” photo.

Off on my Scavenger Hunt Quest. Got my FLRC hat and shirt (you can’t see the socks), my old dog running partner-Ubu, and we’re off. Finally came upon this Speed Limit Sign-End of 45 MPH-phew- I can pick up the pace. Here’s a decorated Lamp Post. Then we spotted a decorated mail box, but then found this big one to put my Santa letter in. Next an outdoor decorated tree-daylight viewing isn’t too great. On we go. Most runs are now long ones, even if we don’t go very far. By the time we got home there was a nice Sunset. We also spotted wolf tracks, but it might have been Ubu’s.

Wow! All 7 items in one run?! That’s incredible!

Wow! I think that house may win most densely packed lights on outdoor greenery!

Found a Hanukkah tree, speed limit sign, and tracks in the snow!

A Costa Rica run in an FL50 shirt, a Costa Rica version of a Christmas Tree, didn’t have a friend to run with but ran into a dog who wanted to be and couldn’t find a mailbox anywhere so i decided a garbage box was a good alternative because much of our mail is garbage these days

One more. Animal tracks in cow dung, anyone guess what the animal is?

well, I’d say Bigfoot, but that looks significantly smaller than a size 13…

Thursday morning 6 am…
mind: hey, it’s warm out let’s go for a run!
body: good idea - and the Scavenger Hunt has started so take phone so we can get pictures…we are sure to see a speed limit sign and Christmas decorations and maybe animal tracks…
mind: yeah, but no sunrise - this is Ithaca in December and it is grey
body: Hey! I’m wearing Finger Lakes Club running socks…good!

Fr. Time: so you think you are going to remember to take pictures on your run? Ha! We’ll see about that ..

Friday morning, 6 am:
Mind: Oh, good grief…I forgot about the pictures…
Body: well, we can pull the socks out of the dirty clothes bin…but I’m NOT putting them on for a picture:

Mind: cool! and we have to run an errand, so let’s get some pictures of our route
Body: okay…how about that speed limit sign just after crossing Thurston Ave by the bridge?

Mind: why is it so blurry?
Body: I was shivering…what do you expect?
Mind: okay…hey, all the ice and snow around Beebe Lake has melted - so no animal tracks pictures..so how about Ho Plaza for lighted poles?
Body: works for me!

Mind: and how about outdoor decorated trees?
Body:…jeez..all I can remember were the shrubs on our neighbor’s house..

Mind: (maybe nobody will notice that those really aren’t trees…)
Body: I doubt it…but maybe we can do better NEXT week

I think that’s the first tree I’ve seen decorated for Hanukkah!

I like the creative substitute of a decorated garbage box.

What a great way to tell some creative storytelling. Also, relatable!
Shh, don’t tell, but I think decorated bushes count as a decorated tree.
I can’t wait to see what you write about next week!
