Last year, FLRC adopted an Event Cancellation Policy to help race directors, group run leaders, and others make informed decisions about how to deal with weather extremes. It’s (intentionally) a little dense, so FLRC’s Communications Team developed a handy Event Cancellation Guidelines infographic that makes it easy to determine when to make changes or consider cancellation.
As you can see in the Wind Chill chart for cold weather months from that infographic, this weekend’s temperatures are in the red. For the Super Frosty Loomis snowshoe race, that’s par for the sport, so the race will take place as scheduled. The race directors are taking additional precautions, communicating about the cold to runners, and making plans for what to do in various situations.
However, for a group run, there’s simply no need for the club to expose runners to potentially dangerous conditions, so we’re canceling the Sunday Skunkday run for this week. We’ll try again next Sunday, when anyone who doesn’t want to brave the cold can instead run the February Flash Dash in Barton Hall!
