We’re approaching the finish line, @Challengers, with just over two weeks left in the Challenge. Our collective mileage ticked up last week, with our third-highest week so far at 719 miles. Our 2,300 total runs took us past 11,000 overall miles. We’ll undoubtedly break 12,000 miles for the year, but exceeding last year’s 12,623 will be a stretch. Help us out by finishing off your final courses!
Nothing much has changed at the top of the leaderboard recently, and the @Fantastic-40s seem to have the team competition sewed up early this year, with the @Fabulous-50s 11 points behind. I’d love to see some team spirit kicking in as in previous years, but I don’t think there’s any way to erase that lead.
But we have had a handful more finishers, bringing us to 48 total. Congratulations to Rachel Neugarten, Brian Harrington, Steve Nathans-Kelly, Gretchen Gilbert, and Kilian Weinberger, all of whom finished their final courses and can claim their medals at the FLRC Annual Picnic on September 19. Mark your calendar and RSVP soon so we can get a head count for the catering.
We had some great photos this week, starting with Damian Clemons and a goat. Sadly, he didn’t get to run with the goat or take it home (and it was actually from his second race of the day after his Lakefront Loops stand-in 5K), but a Get Your Goat 5K sounds like a great race theme.
Next up are Rachel Neugarten and Michelle Dardia at Campbell Meadows after finishing the tough Freeville Fly-In course.
Most recently, Marie Donnelly and Laura Helmerick teamed up to tackle the Treman Trailipop hills.
This weekend’s group run will preview the Monster Marathon and Half Marathon course, and I’ve heard the nicest things about those trails, so if you’re looking for some miles on Saturday, consider joining that group. Or, if you want to be surprised, just sign up for the September 1st race! Saturday, August 24, will be our final FLRC Challenge group run—on the Freeville Fly-In course—so mark your calendars if you still need to finish that one and want some company.
Until next week, keep covering the ground!
