Two administrative notes up front this week, @Challengers.

Don’t miss the Cayuga Cliffs group run and post-run party at the Lamberts on Saturday. It will be muddy and overgrown—sorry!—but we’ll be able to clean off in the lake afterward and then enjoy snacks and socializing. You can also get your Challenge shirt or tank top at the run.

Webscorer has added a feature that enables you to edit the time (but not the date) of your run. Time of day makes no difference for the stats, but if you don’t want the Activity Log to make it look like you ran North Country Half in the dark, you can change it now. It’s part of the time editing when you enter a run manually or edit after the fact.
After a month of low mileage numbers, the improved weather enabled us to cover a lot more ground, almost 600 miles. We’re now over 1,000 total runs and nearly at 5,000 total miles. A bunch of those miles came from Pete Kresock, who took advantage of Father’s Day to run a Tough Tarmac Challenge, and Dennis Stadelman, who made his second big trip down to Ithaca to add a Tough Tarmac Challenge completion to his Tough Trail Challenge completion from April.
The 1600m race at Sunset Circuits hosted the top four places for the men with Patrick Milano running 4:43, Ryan Jacobsen getting under 5:00 with a 4:54, Columbia Warren running his first Challenge course after an ankle injury in 5:52, and Steve Jesch sneaking under 6:00 with a 5:59. On the women’s side of the Sweet 1600, Caitlin Loehr still holds the fastest time at 6:42 but 11-year-old Rasa Warren moved into second at Sunset Circuits with a 6:50 and Kim Jackson into third with a 7:02. Impressive running, everyone, and remember, you can try to lower them at Trackapalooza on July 19.
While Steve Jesch completed his Challenge with that Sweet 1600 and moved into third overall for Most Points and Age Grade, John Hummel finished his Challenge on the opposite side of the county and distance spectrum, with a North Country Half. That also catapulted him into the lead for Age Grade. And despite Pete’s Tough Tarmac Challenge, Gill Haines-Sharp has now taken the lead for Most Miles. Finally, the @Fabulous-50s continue their dominance of the team standings—will it last?
Although we saw lots of great photos this week—there’s never a lack when Dennis Stadelman and Melissa Plank are on the trails—my favorite was Jura Warren’s shot of the tree at Piglet Corner, captioned “When your pace is slow but your aesthetic is gothic novel.” Moody!
Hope to see lots of people covering the ground tomorrow morning at Cayuga Cliffs!
PS: I’ve ordered more FLRC Challenge lawn signs and should have them available to hand out next weekend.
