The next FLRC group run is this Saturday, June 7, on the South Hill Rec Way, hosted by @dianahackett. We will meet at the Juniper Dr. trailhead at 8:30am and run at 8:45am. You can run in either direction, then double back and do the other leg for 4.5 miles. You may also continue down the hill for more mileage if needed/desired, or repeat a leg of the upper section.
This is an hour-long run, so when your watch hits 30 minutes, turn around and run back regardless of where you are. This allows everyone to start together and end together.
Please vote in the poll below so others can get a sense of who else will be running their pace. We always have a wide range of runners, so you’ll generally find someone to run with.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, ability, pace, or anything else. This is a free activity and club membership is not required, but please sign the FLRC 2025 Training Programs before your first run this year. You only need to sign the waiver once for all 2025 group runs, so if you’ve already signed it, you’re all set—check here.
I’m Just trying to get back into running after a few bouts with chronic plantar fasciitis. I’ve had it on both feet including a procedure to cure a chronic 6 year battle. My last 5k was around 17 years ago. I can only run 2 miles All at once without walking. Trying to slowly build up the mileage and work on pace, but the last time I don’t think I was properly warmed up and my low hack started hurting. I tried jogging slowly as a warm up but it happened 3 times so I had yo Just do a Walk. Eventually after walking a bit felt more warmed up and did a few (about 3-4 during the 40 minute walk) random jogs as then I no linger felt the pinching sensation in my low back. I can run around a 9:30 pace for 2 miles. But I’m not ready to run for an hour. Does the club have folks like me?
Veronica
Hi Veronica! All abilities and paces are welcome to our group runs (including folks who want to hike or walk instead), and you certainly do not have to participate for the entire hour. There has been a need for a group run that is shorter in distance and time, which we will be starting in a few weeks, on Mondays at 6 down at Cass Park. Keep watching the forum for the announcement. I am not a doctor and cannot give advice on your low back predicament, but we know many specialists in the area who work on runners and can recommend someone if you’re looking for further advice in that area.
Just in case anyone is thinking of braving the weather this morning (and I really don’t blame you if you’re not), there’s some roadwork being done at the Juniper Drive trailhead so there’s VERY limited parking there. Might be best to park at another point and mosey up to the trailhead on foot.
Based on what you describe, I think you’d be best served by seeing Gerrit Van Loon to start. He’s a chiropractor who uses the Active Release Technique for soft tissue work, and while plantar heel pain is resistant to a lot, he will be intrigued by the low back pain and how it may be connected to the foot problems.
No way am I going To Garrett. Have heard great things about him from my dragon boat paddling friends but that he also makes you cry. I do not want/nor react well to healing modalities where one has to go through more pain in order to get there. No thanks.
