First off, a quick poll. We’ve suffered attrition in our FLRC Challenge lawn signs since 2021. If I ordered more, would you want one for your lawn? Click Yes in the poll below if so, and I’ll see if enough people are interested to make the order worthwhile.
- Yes
It was a wet, sloppy week out there, but we still managed to exceed 600 runs and close in on 3,000 miles. Sooner or later, the clouds will clear and we’ll get to lay down some serious mileage.
The weather didn’t stop the indomitable Ian Woods, who claimed his medal on the tough North Country Half course. He also leapt into second place for Most Points and third place in Age Grade, less than a point behind Gillian Haines-Sharp and Steve Nathans-Kelly, so we could have some back-and-forth competition there. Tristan Lambert and Ruth Sproul have just Abbott Ascent left, and Lucia Chen is gathering energy for her final North Country Half course (and there’s always Rachel Neugarten’s hike on Saturday).
Melissa Plank has pioneered a new approach to photos—captions! They’re hilarious, but this one may explain why Abbott Ascent has seen by far the fewest runs of all the courses. It will dry out!
I was also tickled by Steve Desmond submitting an early remote Sweet 1600 from MIT’s track while wearing his Ithaca College shirt.
And Melanie Smee realizing that running in the outer lanes of the track really does make for more distance. Good accuracy on the GPS, though!
On Sunday, the group will be tackling the Town & Gown Up & Down course at 8:30 AM—join us!
Don’t forget to sign up to march with us in the Ithaca Festival Parade!
